What is Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), often called “tapping,” is a gentle, evidence-based approach that combines modern psychology with acupressure. It supports the nervous system in releasing stored emotional stress, helping the body move out of survival mode and into safety and balance.

EFT involves lightly tapping on specific acupressure points while bringing awareness to thoughts, memories, or emotions. This process helps calm the brain’s threat response, allowing emotional and physical symptoms to soften and resolve naturally.

Backed by over 200 clinical studies, EFT has been shown to support conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, chronic pain, phobias, and stress-related health concerns — including those connected to autoimmune conditions.

What makes EFT especially powerful is its ability to gently access and release the emotional imprints of past experiences, without needing to relive or retell them in detail. This makes it a safe and effective approach for trauma recovery and emotional healing.

What a Session Feels Like

An EFT session is gentle, collaborative, and paced entirely around your nervous system. There is no pressure to relive or retell painful experiences in detail.

You’ll be guided through simple tapping sequences while staying connected to what feels present for you — whether that’s an emotion, body sensation, memory, or belief. Many clients describe sessions as calming, grounding, and surprisingly relieving.

You may notice:

  • a sense of emotional release or lightness

  • reduced intensity around triggers

  • greater clarity or insight

  • feeling more settled in your body

Most importantly, sessions are designed to feel safe, supportive, and empowering, allowing your system to process and release what it’s ready to — at your pace.

Why EFT Works with Trauma

Trauma lives not just in the mind, but in the body and nervous system. When an experience overwhelms a child’s capacity to cope, the body stores that emotional energy as protection. Over time, this can show up as anxiety, chronic stress, physical symptoms, autoimmune responses, or repeating life patterns.

EFT works directly with the brain’s threat system and the body’s stress response, helping to:

  • calm the nervous system

  • reduce emotional charge around past events

  • restore a sense of internal safety

  • release stored emotional patterns without re-traumatisation

Because EFT does not require retelling traumatic memories in detail, it is especially suitable for childhood trauma and complex trauma. It offers a gentle, respectful pathway to healing — one that honours the body’s wisdom and the individual’s readiness.heaing.

About Me

My Journey to Healing and Helping Others

My Healing Journey & Why I Support Others

My path to becoming a Clinical EFT Practitioner began long before my training — through my own lived experience of navigating autoimmune conditions from childhood into adulthood. For many years, I focused on functional medicine, nutrition, and supplementation, which supported my physical health in meaningful ways. Yet something still felt unresolved.

I realised that while I was nourishing my body, I wasn’t addressing the emotional imprints and stored stress that had been held within it for decades. This awareness led me to study the mind-body connection and the body’s energy systems. When I began releasing long-held emotional patterns with EFT and learning to meet myself with compassion and understanding, I experienced a profound shift — one that no diet or protocol had reached.

What I discovered is the beauty of EFT: it offers a gentle, empowering way to release the weight of the past — trauma, worry, and emotional pain — so we are no longer living from survival, but from choice, clarity, and freedom. This transformation inspired me to help others experience that same sense of emotional freedom.

Trauma Is Not About Severity — It’s About Impact

Trauma is not defined by how “bad” something looks from the outside — it is defined by how it is experienced and held within the body and nervous system.

Some people carry the impact of what is often called “Big T” trauma — such as abuse or violence — while others have been shaped by experiences like the loss of a parent, emotional neglect, or feeling unsafe, unseen, or unsupported during childhood. Even when someone says, “It wasn’t that bad,” their body may still be carrying the emotional imprint of that experience.

When a child does not receive the safety, understanding, or support they need at the time, those unprocessed emotions can remain stored in the body into adulthood — influencing relationships, health, self-worth, and life choices.

Healing is not about comparing pain — it is about honouring the impact and gently releasing what has been held.

My Training & Approach

In addition to being a certified Clinical EFT Practitioner, I trained in the Grace Process® with Dr. Lori Leyden, an internationally respected trauma-healing and transformation expert. I am also a qualified Nutritional Coach, allowing me to support clients from a holistic, whole-person perspective.

My trauma-informed approach integrates emotional healing, nervous system regulation, and energy psychology. I work with clients who:

  • live with autoimmune conditions

  • have experienced childhood trauma or complex trauma

  • feel emotionally overwhelmed or stuck

  • struggle with fears, phobias, or patterns rooted in past experiences

Together, we gently work with the mind-body system to release what has been held — often for many years — creating space for safety, self-connection, and lasting change.

A wonderful twist of fate led me to Nicola who has helped me so much through her EFT sessions. Since starting with her I have noticed a serious decrease in my day to day rheumatoid arthritis pain and had barely any flares. The practice of EFT has also helped me process a lot of ‘bits' in my past and connect various threads together. I feel a calmness in my body that I haven’t felt before but also a strength to stand up for myself too. Nicola is an incredibly warm and welcoming person who puts you at ease from the first time you meet her. As well as processing specific events through the sessions I have found her tips about how to use tapping in my day to day life so useful to calm my body in stressful times. I am so very grateful to Nicola and all the help she has given me to manage my rheumatoid pain but also to be able to live more in the moment rather than constantly in my head wondering the ’should haves'. She has honestly changed my life for the better, thank you Nicola. TP

I had 3 sessions of tapping with Nicola, spread over 2 months. These sessions really helped me understand where my issues with daily addictions stem from. They really worked in terms of helping me dissect how my childhood traumas have affected me. Nicola is a superb therapist. She will help you find which threads to explore on your road to healing. EV
